JurnalPost.com - Many companies in Indonesia often fall into a classic trap when planning expansion. Sales targets are doubled, new branches are prepared in various cities, and digital technology is purchased. However, amidst these grand ambitions, one crucial question is often forgotten: are the people who will execute these plans ready? Frequently, human resources (HR) matters are considered as an afterthought, as if employees can be recruited and start working instantly the moment a new office opens. In reality, separating business planning from HR planning is a silent blunder that can undermine a company's stability from within.

This perspective is not new in the world of management. Long ago, Golden and Ramanujam (1985) in their classic study in Human Resource Management highlighted the importance of bridging the human resource management planning process with strategic business planning. Without this integration, business strategies designed in executive boardrooms often turn into nightmares when executed in the field. When business targets are set without accounting for the availability and competence of the workforce, companies face various tangible risks, ranging from a shortage of experts and sudden spikes in recruitment costs to the disruption of daily operations.

Similar criticism was reinforced by Endari (2009) in his writing in the Jurnal Siasat Bisnis, which explained that integrating HR planning with strategic planning is essential so that companies do not merely orient themselves toward reactive, short-term workforce fulfillment. In the context of the highly dynamic modern business environment, this view is further emphasized by a contemporary study by Pratama and Wibowo (2023) in the Jurnal Manajemen Bisnis dan Kewirausahaan, which concluded that companies involving the HR division from the beginning of corporate strategy formulation have a much higher level of market adaptation compared to companies that still treat HR functions as purely administrative. This means the HR function should no longer be positioned as a support division that only receives instructions at the end of the chain.

So, how should this integration be applied in real-world business situations in Indonesia? Imagine a local retail company planning a major digital transformation to expand its market share. If management only focuses on the budget for purchasing systems without mapping the digital skill readiness of its employees, the project is certain to stall. Through an integrated approach, the management team and HR must sit together from day one to map out employee headcount requirements, design specialized training programs, and prepare career development paths that align with those business growth targets.

As reviewed by Palupi and Tjahjono in their notes in JBTI: Jurnal Bisnis: Teori dan Implementasi, alignment between organizational vision and internal capacity is the key to maintaining cost efficiency and long-term productivity. When business and HR planning are aligned, companies will no longer experience panic when pursuing aggressive growth targets. Ultimately, no matter how sophisticated the technology or how large the capital invested, the success of a business strategy at its grassroots will always depend on the readiness of the people who execute it every day.
