Pangkep, JurnalPost.com - The 58th-anniversary celebration of PT Semen Tonasa was more than just a sporting event for the people of Pangkajene and Islands (Pangkep) Regency, South Sulawesi. The Fun Walk held on Sunday (10/18/2026) also opened up business opportunities for hundreds of micro, small, and medium enterprise (SME) operators.
Tens of thousands of residents reportedly packed the event area and the entire length of the fun walk route. This crowd provided a prime opportunity for local vendors to sell their products to participants and visitors.
Hundreds of SME tenants helped enliven the event. They consisted of local business owners and partners supported by PT Semen Tonasa's Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program.
The presence of these vendors turned the fun walk into more than just a group exercise, as it also generated economic activity for the community.
Participant Crowds Become Opportunities for Local Vendors
Amidst the large number of residents participating in the Fun Walk, SME operators had the chance to introduce their products directly to potential customers.
For small businesses, an event attracting tens of thousands of visitors is an opportunity to expand their market without relying solely on online promotion.
In addition to the potential for increased sales during the event, the participation of SMEs also helps introduce local products to people from various regions.
However, as of the time of the event, no official data was available regarding the total transactions or revenue generated by all tenants.
Therefore, the economic impact of the event cannot be measured precisely, although the involvement of hundreds of business owners clearly demonstrates the trade opportunities present in such a large crowd.
Semen Tonasa President Director Appreciates Public Participation
President Director of PT Semen Tonasa, Anis, expressed his appreciation to the community for helping celebrate the company's anniversary.
He also acknowledged the support of the local government, company partners, and all parties who participated in the event.
According to him, the high level of public enthusiasm is an important part of the company's journey as it enters its 58th year.
The Semen Tonasa anniversary commemoration, Anis said, is not only an opportunity to reflect on the company's journey but also to strengthen relationships with the community and stakeholders.
The involvement of hundreds of SMEs is expected to provide economic benefits, especially for small business owners who need access to wider markets.
Fun Walk Becomes a Gathering for the Pangkep Community
The 58th Anniversary Fun Walk of PT Semen Tonasa was also attended by the company's management, members of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), Pangkep sub-district officials, banking representatives, and several company partners.
People from all walks of life gathered to participate in the group exercise in a celebratory atmosphere.
Prior to the event, General Manager of Communication, Law, and General Facilities of PT Semen Tonasa, Muhammad Mursham, stated that the Fun Walk is an agenda that always receives significant public attention.
"We hope this event will be lively and serve as a space for togetherness for all participants," said Mursham in his statement on Friday (10/16/2026).
At that time, the company also advised participants to remain mindful of their health, including wearing masks to anticipate potential exposure to smoke amidst concerns over air quality.
SME Empowerment Expected to Extend Beyond the Celebration
The involvement of hundreds of tenants in the 58th Anniversary Fun Walk of Semen Tonasa is an example of how community events can be linked to local economic empowerment.
Although it took place during a single event, the opportunity to meet potential consumers directly can be utilized by business owners to build networks and introduce their products.
The challenge is to ensure that these opportunities continue after the event concludes.
SME operators need wider and more sustainable market access so that promotional opportunities in large-scale events do not only result in one-off transactions.
Through this series of 58th-anniversary commemorations, PT Semen Tonasa hopes to maintain its relationship with the community while strengthening support for the development of local businesses.
Thus, the success of the company's anniversary celebration is measured not only by the number of participants who attended but also by the benefits felt by the surrounding community.
