SLEMAN – The road to the podium is never instantaneous. This has been proven by Alkhalifi Alby Raffiansyah, a young badminton athlete from Sleman Regency who has shown consistent positive development since he began pursuing the sport in early 2024.
Alby, as he is affectionately known, is a student in grade 4 at SD Negeri Model Sleman, born on 2016. Although he has only been playing badminton for about two years, his consistent training and competitive spirit have already begun to yield several achievements.
Entering 2026, Alby successfully secured the 3 place title at the Sleman Regency Championship (Kejurkab) 2026. His success continued with a 3 place finish at the Yogyakarta Special Region Provincial Championship (Kejurda) 2026.
These achievements mark an important step in Alby's journey as a young athlete who continues to develop his skills and competitive experience.
“I am happy to be able to compete at the national level. Every match is a new experience for me. I want to keep training, improving my game, and one day win at the national level,” said Alby.
Not stopping at the regency and provincial levels, Alby has also begun testing his mettle in the National Circuit (Sirnas) arena.
His participation in this national-level competition serves as an opportunity to test his abilities, build mental toughness, and gain experience facing young athletes from across Indonesia.
The experience of competing at the national level is also a vital part of Alby's development process. Each match provides new insights and serves as an evaluation tool to enhance his technique, strategy, and consistency.
Alby's coach notes that the young athlete's progress is quite positive, particularly regarding his courage and competitive mentality.

“Alby's development is quite good, especially in terms of courage and mental toughness. At his young age, what we are pursuing is not just results, but also basic technique, consistency, discipline, and competitive experience,” said Alby's coach.
Sharpening Concentration Through Abacus
Interestingly, Alby's skill development is not limited to badminton training.
To help improve his focus, concentration, and precision, Alby is also actively studying International Abacus at IMA Yogyakarta.
This activity is part of an effort to maintain a balance between physical ability and cognitive skills.
In badminton, concentration is a crucial factor because an athlete must be able to make quick decisions when facing rapidly changing situations on the court.
“In addition to badminton training, Alby also studies the abacus to help train his focus and concentration. We see that the ability to maintain focus is also important when he is on the court,” said Alby's parents.
The combination of physical training, technical development, and activities that train focus is expected to help shape Alby's character as a disciplined and consistent young athlete.
Continuing to Gain Experience
Alby's journey in the world of badminton is still long. At such a young age, the opportunities to grow and improve his skills remain wide open.
Support from family, coaches, school, and his environment plays an essential role in the development process he is undergoing.
Alby's parents emphasize that the development process remains the top priority rather than placing excessive targets on him at such a young age.
“We do not want to burden Alby too much with targets. The most important thing is that he enjoys the process, trains with discipline, stays focused on school, and keeps learning from every match,” said Alby's parents.
Through the ongoing training process, Alby is expected to become increasingly mature, both in terms of technique and mental readiness.
Looking ahead, he is expected to continue improving his abilities, face competitions consistently, and achieve even higher accomplishments in various championships.
The journey that began in 2024 is now beginning to lead Alby into a broader competitive landscape.
From the badminton courts in Sleman, Alkhalifi Alby Raffiansyah is slowly building experience and honing his skills to pursue success at the national level.
