BATU CITY, JurnalPost.com— September 2026 was a busy month for young Batu City shooting athlete M. Azzam Kenzie Al Fawwaz. In a relatively short span, he competed in three championships across three different locations, concluding the series with two silver medals.
Azzam achieved his latest result at the East Java provincial-level championship Surabaya Rising Champion which took place at the HSC Kodam V/Brawijaya Range, Surabaya, from 26–27 September 2026.
In that event, Azzam earned a silver medal in the Men's 41-meter Multi Rangeclass.
This achievement marks his second silver medal in quick succession. A week earlier, from 20–21 September 2026, the grade XII B student of MAN 1 Malang City also reached the podium at the national-level shooting championship Pangkorpasgat TNI AU 2026.
Competing at the Abdulrachman Saleh Air Force Base Shooting Range in Malang, Azzam won silver in the Men's Junior 41-meter Multi Range class.
However, Azzam's string of competitions throughout September did not always end on the podium.
Previously, he participated in the national-level championship Piala Panglima TNI 2026 at the Infantry Division 1 Kostrad Shooting Range in Cilodong. In the Men's Junior 41-meter Multi Range class, Azzam recorded a score of 350 and placed fifth.
That result did not deter him. From Cilodong, Azzam immediately prepared for his next match in Malang before heading to Surabaya.
The two matches following the Piala Panglima TNI both ended with silver medals.

Three Competitions in Quick Succession
Participating in three competitions within a span of approximately 10 days presents a unique challenge for a young athlete.
Beyond maintaining physical condition, the travel between arenas—from Cilodong to Malang and then to Surabaya—made every match an opportunity to evaluate his technique and consistency.
Azzam is currently under the guidance of the Poltekad Shooting Club (PSC) Batu chaired by Captain Cpl. Dr. Bambang Ragil W., S.Sos., M.M.
During his training, Azzam also receives direct mentorship from his father, First Lieutenant (Peltu) Ir. Heri Setiawan, S.T., M.Tr.T., an Indonesian Army officer stationed at the Army Polytechnic (Poltekad).
On the training field, their father-son dynamic shifts to that of coach and athlete. Evaluations regarding shooting technique, concentration management, and match readiness are all part of his routine.
Currently, Azzam is also participating in the Batu City PORPROV Training Center.
The various competitions he enters serve not only as a chance to chase medals but also to gain experience and measure his abilities against shooters from different regions.
PORPROV is one of Azzam's immediate targets. In the long term, he aspires to continue improving his skills for the opportunity to represent East Java at the National Sports Week (PON).
Beyond Shooting, Azzam is an Active Writer
Azzam's activities extend beyond the shooting range. Amidst his busy schedule as an athlete and student, he also has a keen interest in writing.
Recently, Azzam participated in the Anti-Corruption Religious Article Writing Competition organized by the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Malang City.
His work was among the 15 entries at the Madrasah Aliyah level selected from 19 manuscripts to be published in an anthology of anti-corruption religious articles.
In the version published by the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Malang City, Azzam's work is titled “The Irony of Rankings: Honest but Foolish, Cheating but Champion”.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs explained that some manuscript titles may undergo adjustments during the editing process without altering the substance or authorship of the work.
Interestingly, Azzam's experience as an athlete colored the ideas presented in his writing.
He described how his life as a student runs parallel to his shooting practice routine. He also used the sport as an analogy for the ability to control oneself.
In the competition arena, a shooter cannot control how an opponent aims or changes in wind conditions. What can be controlled is focus, breath regulation, and one's own hand movements.
That experience has led Azzam to realize that the process is just as meaningful as the final result.
In his writing, he posits that losing in numbers does not always mean losing in value.
This perspective aligns with his shooting journey. Before returning to the podium regularly, Azzam went through a period of about one year without winning a medal.
That time became part of a process that taught him about patience and consistency, rather than just hitting the target.
September 2026 became a pivotal phase in his competitive journey.
Starting from a fifth-place finish with a score of 350 in Cilodong, Azzam continued his competition by winning two consecutive silver medals in Malang and Surabaya.
The journey for this young Batu City athlete is still long. In addition to preparing for PORPROV, Azzam continues to pursue performance improvements with the hope of one day representing East Java on a larger stage.
And when he is not in front of a target, he has another space to pour out his experiences and thoughts: through his writing.
