JurnalPost.com, Kubu Raya – The Universitas Indonesia (UI) Patriot Expedition team held a Community Service (PKM) program to foster an entrepreneurial spirit among students at SMA Bina Mandiri, Teluk Pakedai District, Kubu Raya Regency, West Kalimantan, on Tuesday (27/10/2026).
Carrying the theme “Creative and Independent Young Generation: Cultivating Entrepreneurship Based on Local Potential”, this activity encouraged students to identify business opportunities that can be developed from the resources and economic potential in their surrounding environment.
The event featured Siti Fatimah, M.Pd., from the Universitas Indonesia Vocational Education Program as the speaker. Through the entrepreneurship session, students were encouraged to think creatively, increase their independence, and understand the initial steps of building a business by utilizing local potential.
In her presentation, Siti Fatimah explained that starting a business does not always require large capital. According to her, the ability to see opportunities, understand community needs, and create beneficial solutions is a vital foundation for building an entrepreneurial mindset.
Students were invited to understand that business opportunities can be found through various daily activities. Available resources in the surrounding environment, if managed creatively, have the potential to produce goods or services with economic value.
In addition to introducing basic entrepreneurship concepts, the activity also discussed the character traits a young entrepreneur should possess. Creativity, independence, discipline, courage to try, honesty, adaptability, and a resilient attitude were among the values emphasized to the participants.
These traits are considered essential for shaping a young generation that is not only capable of finding opportunities but also prepared to face challenges in developing a business.
Exploring Business Opportunities from Local Potential
One of the focuses of the activity was introducing various regional potentials that can be developed into business opportunities. Students were given an overview of utilizing agricultural, plantation, and fishery products, as well as traditional foods and handicrafts, as sources of productive economic activity.
Beyond the utilization of natural resources, skills in graphic design, content creation, and digital marketing were also introduced as business opportunities that can be developed by the younger generation.

Through this material, students are expected to understand that entrepreneurship is not limited to buying and selling goods. Creativity in processing products, providing services, and utilizing technology can also be part of business development.
Participants also received training on the basics of business management, ranging from calculating capital requirements and production costs to setting selling prices and understanding the difference between revenue and profit.
This understanding of simple financial management serves as an initial foundation so that students can calculate opportunities and risks before running a business.
Utilizing Digital Technology for Business Promotion
As technology continues to evolve, the UI Patriot Expedition team also introduced the use of digital tools and applications to support entrepreneurial activities.
Students were introduced to using Canva for creating promotional designs, mobile phone cameras for producing product photos, and WhatsApp and social media as means to introduce goods or services to potential consumers.
The utilization of this technology is expected to help students understand how to market products more attractively without having to incur large promotional costs.
Not only focusing on business skills, the activity material also emphasized the importance of ethics in entrepreneurship. Values such as honesty, responsibility, discipline, cooperation, and environmental awareness were part of the discussion.
Students were given the understanding that business success is not measured solely by financial profit, but also by the ability to maintain consumer trust and provide benefits to the community.
This community service activity is part of the UI Patriot Expedition team's contribution to supporting the capacity building of the community, especially the younger generation in the regions.
The members of the UI Patriot Expedition team involved in the activity consisted of Ranum Wanudya Yunas, Bani Mukti, Adia Reza Khaleda, Fahmi, Sela Viviyani, and Sri Indriani.
Through this entrepreneurship education based on local potential, students of SMA Bina Mandiri are expected to be more confident in exploring business ideas, developing creativity, and utilizing resources in their surrounding environment productively.
This activity also serves as a step to introduce an entrepreneurial mindset from school age, so that the younger generation is not only oriented toward finding jobs but also possesses the ability to create economic opportunities independently and sustainably.
