Teluk Wondama, JurnalPost.com — Team 18 of the University of Indonesia (UI) Patriot Expedition mobilized from the Werianggi-Windesi area toward Wasior, Teluk Wondama Regency, West Papua, on Thursday, October 1, 2026.

The journey was part of a series of Focus Group Discussion (FGD) activities involving farmers, business owners, local community members, and transmigrant residents.

To reach Wasior, the group had to utilize two modes of transportation: a land vehicle in the form of a pickup truck and sea transport using a longboat. Before departure, the team ensured the readiness of participants, equipment, and logistical needs to ensure the journey and the execution of the activities proceeded smoothly.

This situation highlights the accessibility challenges still faced by communities in several transmigrant areas of Teluk Wondama.

Limited road access affects the mobility of residents, particularly when they need to reach service centers, transport produce, or carry out various economic activities. Travel distance and road conditions are factors that must be considered, as they influence the efficiency of human movement and the distribution of goods.

After completing the land portion of the trip, the group continued their journey by sea using a longboat. The trip to Wasior took approximately 2.5 hours.

The use of sea transport is a vital component of community mobility in the region. Geographical conditions require residents to coordinate their travel based on vessel availability, weather conditions, travel time, and the need for logistics and fuel.

Traveling with the residents also provided Team 18 of the UI Patriot Expedition the opportunity to witness firsthand the accessibility conditions faced by the people of Werianggi, Windesi, and the surrounding areas.

This experience is a crucial part of understanding the relationship between geographical conditions, transport connectivity, and the socio-economic activities of the community.

Midway through the journey, the longboat used by the group had to stop for refueling. This situation demonstrates that sea travel requires careful preparation, particularly regarding fuel availability, vessel condition, weather, and safety aspects.

Such challenges illustrate the conditions that residents may face when sea transport serves as a primary route for connecting one region to another.

Upon arriving in Wasior, the farmers and business owners participated in a series of FGD activities held at the Sasana Karya Building, Wasior.

The FGD served as a forum to discuss the development of transmigrant areas, the potential of key commodities, and the need for improved land and sea transport connectivity.

Through this activity, it is hoped that a more comprehensive picture of community needs will be obtained, covering aspects of transport access, distribution of produce, and the development of economic activities.

Improved connectivity is a critical aspect, as it is directly related to the community's ability to access markets and public services, as well as to facilitate the distribution of commodities from production areas.

The mobilization of Team 18 of the UI Patriot Expedition alongside residents from Werianggi-Windesi to Wasior was part of the process of understanding field conditions firsthand.

Amidst the limitations of land and sea transport access, the journey underscores the importance of developing a transportation system that aligns with the geographical characteristics of the region.

Community involvement is also a vital element in the development of transmigrant areas. Better connectivity is expected to support economic activities, streamline the distribution of key commodities, and strengthen the relationship between local residents and transmigrant citizens in Teluk Wondama Regency.
