PANGKEP, JurnalPost.com — PT Semen Tonasa is using its 58 anniversary as a momentum to strengthen business transformation and operational efficiency amidst increasingly tight competition in the cement industry. The company also emphasized the importance of collaboration among all employees to maintain long-term business sustainability.
This commitment was highlighted during the PT Semen Tonasa 58 anniversary ceremony held at the company's headquarters on Monday (2/11/2026).
Carrying the theme “Navigating Transformation in Harmony”, this year's commemoration serves not only as a moment to reflect on the company's journey over nearly six decades but also as an opportunity to evaluate business challenges and determine steps to face market changes.
The ceremony was attended by the board of directors, leadership staff, employees, KIKST board members and staff, company organization representatives, YKST retirees, and cooperatives. Several students from the Semen Tonasa School, ranging from kindergarten to high school, also participated in the festivities.
Semen Tonasa Faces Operational Challenges and Market Competition
In his remarks, President Director of PT Semen Tonasa, Anis, expressed his appreciation to all employees and the extended company family who have contributed to maintaining business continuity as the company enters its 58 year.
According to him, the company's long journey has been inseparable from various challenges, stemming from both market dynamics and operational issues.
One of the management's current concerns is the dynamic of energy supply, which affects the optimization of production activities.
This condition requires the company to strengthen operational resilience so that production activities continue to run effectively while maintaining business sustainability.
"Behind every challenge, there is always an opportunity. I invite all employees of PT Semen Tonasa and all affiliated companies to continue working hard and working smart to make this company even better," said Anis.
He emphasized that the ability to adapt is a crucial factor for the company to face the pressures of an evolving industry.
Two Transformation Strategies Become Company Priorities
In facing these conditions, PT Semen Tonasa is implementing two main strategies mandated by shareholders through the holding company, PT Semen Indonesia, namely business transformation and cost transformation or cost transformation.
Business transformation is directed at shifting the company's orientation from being production-focused to being increasingly market-oriented.
This change requires all work units to understand consumer behavior, competitive dynamics, and the ever-evolving needs of customers.
With this approach, the company's strategy no longer relies solely on the ability to produce cement, but also on how products can compete and reach the market effectively.
This challenge is considered increasingly important as the national cement industry faces intense competition, including in the Eastern Indonesia region.
According to management, the region has experienced overcapacity, or overcapacity, leading to heightened competition among industry players.
Despite holding the second position in terms of production capacity in Eastern Indonesia, Semen Tonasa is said to still be able to maintain the largest market share in the region.
This market position serves as an asset for the company to retain customers while strengthening competitiveness amidst increasing competitive pressure.
Cost Efficiency Strengthened Across All Lines
In addition to changing its business orientation, Semen Tonasa has placed cost transformation as an important part of its corporate strategy.
This step is related to the increasingly competitive cement selling prices, especially when several producers offer products at lower prices.
In such a situation, efficiency becomes a necessity that must be applied comprehensively, whether in production activities, operations, or organizational management.
Management emphasized that cost control needs to be carried out continuously so that the company can maintain operational effectiveness without ignoring long-term business needs.
Cost transformation is also expected to strengthen the company's ability to face changing market conditions.
Thus, the success of the transformation is measured not only by increased production or sales but also by the company's ability to manage resources more optimally.
Employee Collaboration is the Key to Transformation
The theme “Navigating Transformation in Harmony” also carries an important message regarding cooperation and alignment of goals within the company environment.
Anis emphasized that transformation cannot be carried out by only one part of the organization. All elements of the company must move with the same vision.
Therefore, employees are expected not only to focus on achieving individual Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) or those of their respective work units.
The achievement of corporate KPIs needs to be a shared concern so that all transformation programs contribute to the company's overall performance.
This spirit is also the main message of the Semen Tonasa 58 anniversary commemoration. The company's long experience is expected to be a provision for facing change, rather than just becoming a historical record.
Management invites all employees to take an active role in building the company's future through hard work, innovation, and cross-unit collaboration.
Launch of New Gesture and Creative Dance Competition
This year's anniversary momentum was also marked by the launch of a new Semen Tonasa gesture symbol, which began to be implemented on 2 November 2026.
The gesture shows two hands with the left hand positioned on top, while the right hand supports from below.
According to the company, the symbol represents the spirit to continue moving in a better direction and to strengthen a shared identity in carrying out the transformation.
In addition to internal activities, the 58 anniversary commemoration was also filled with a number of activities involving the community around the company.
One of them was the Eastern Creative Dance Competition 1 Semen, which was attended by employees and the community in the area around Semen Tonasa.
The activity became a space for participants to showcase creativity while introducing and preserving regional arts and culture.
Through activities involving the community, the company also strives to maintain good relations with the environment around its operational areas.
This 58 anniversary commemoration also marks Semen Tonasa's step into the next chapter, where efficiency, the ability to read market needs, and organizational cohesion become important parts of maintaining the company's sustainability amidst changes in the cement industry.
