Jakarta, JurnalPost.com - Demonstrations are scheduled to take place at several locations in Jakarta on Thursday, August 27, 2026, with the main concentration of protesters expected at the DPR/MPR RI building complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta.

As of the lead-up to the protests, police report that the situation in Jakarta remains generally safe and conducive. Traffic is currently flowing normally, with vehicle diversions to be implemented situationally based on the volume and movement of crowds on the ground.

Director of Traffic for the Jakarta Metro Police, Senior Commissioner Firman Darmansyah, stated that traffic diversion schemes will not be permanently enforced from the start. Police will implement traffic management if congestion increases, particularly on Jalan Gatot Subroto and around the parliamentary complex.

Consequently, motorists traveling through the Senayan area on Thursday morning should anticipate sudden traffic changes as the crowd size grows.

August 27, 2026 Protest Locations

The DPR/MPR RI building is the primary focal point for the protests. The Jakarta Metro Police previously confirmed that at least two groups have submitted notifications to demonstrate: the United Pati Community Alliance (AMPB) and the Red and White Alliance.

Initial estimates received by the police suggest approximately 500 participants. This number remains subject to change as other community groups are also reported to be heading toward the parliamentary area.

In addition to the DPR, security forces are preparing to secure other strategic areas, including the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout and the Presidential Palace vicinity.

Security operations are being conducted by the Jakarta Metro Police in coordination with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Jakarta Provincial Government, the Transportation Agency, and other security elements.

Jakarta Transportation Agency Deploys 120 Officers

The Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) has deployed 120 special officers to anticipate the impact of the protests on traffic flow.

A total of 60 officers will be on duty from 07:00 to 13:00 WIB, with another 60 officers stationed from 13:00 to 19:00 WIB.

Head of the Jakarta Transportation Agency, Budi Awaluddin, stated that traffic engineering will be applied situationally based on conditions and crowd movements.

The agency has divided traffic management into several zones, covering the DPR/MPR RI area, the Senayan–Gatot Subroto–Sudirman corridor, and the Presidential Palace area.

Traffic Diversions Around the DPR

One of the road segments potentially affected is the southern side of Jalan Letjen S. Parman, stretching from the Semanggi area to the Slipi intersection.

If congestion occurs around the DPR, several diversion schemes have been prepared.

Vehicles coming from the Cawang direction may be diverted via Jalan Jenderal Gatot Subroto, Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Jalan Sisingamangaraja, Jalan Asia Afrika, and Jalan Patal Senayan.

Meanwhile, vehicles traveling from the Tomang direction toward Cawang may be diverted via Jalan Tomang Raya, Jalan Balikpapan, Jalan Suryopranoto, and Jalan Juanda if conditions necessitate closures or diversions.

For vehicles traveling from the Blok M direction toward Tomang, the prepared alternative route is via Jalan Sisingamangaraja, Jalan Asia Afrika, and Jalan Patal Senayan. Another option is to proceed via Jalan Gatot Subroto toward Cawang.

Palace Area Also Monitored

Traffic management is not limited to the Senayan area. The Transportation Agency is also anticipating potential impacts on central Jakarta and the Presidential Palace area.

Road segments included in the contingency plan include Jalan M.H. Thamrin, Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, Jalan KH Wahid Hasyim, Jalan Kebon Sirih, and Jalan Budi Kemuliaan.

If congestion increases, diversions may be implemented via Jalan M.I. Ridwan Rais, Medan Merdeka Timur, Veteran, Cideng, Abdul Muis, Majapahit, and several other alternative routes.

The Transportation Agency has also stationed officers at 10 traffic management points, including the Senayan intersection, FX, the Fairmont traffic lights, Patal Senayan, Gate 10, Hotel Mulia, the Palmerah intersection, the Babah Alun Mosque, and the Ladokgi area.

Motorists Advised to Plan Ahead

Members of the public who do not have urgent business in the Senayan area are advised to consider alternative routes, especially as the concentration of protesters begins to increase.

Vehicle users should also monitor the latest traffic information, as road closures and diversions are subject to change at any time.

The Jakarta Metro Police emphasized that traffic diversions are based on factual conditions on the ground, rather than permanent closures starting in the morning. The police also urged the public not to easily trust information regarding road closures that has not been confirmed through official channels.

Developments regarding the August 27, 2026, protests at the DPR, including crowd numbers, traffic situations, and changes in locations or diversion routes, remain subject to change throughout the day.
